Believing that the controversy he figured not so long ago was just a passing scene, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) board rejected in its most recent meeting the resignation of commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy, Jr.
During the meeting last Thursday at the Gustavia restaurant presided over by CESAFI president Engr. Rolly Villa of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, the CESAFI Board unanimously voted to retain Tiukinhoy as commissioner of Cebu’s premier collegiate league.
With that, Tiukinhoy immediately announced he will meet the CESAFI athletic directors next week to mop out their plans for the CESAFI 2008-2009 season.
It can be recalled that Tiukinhoy submitted his irrevocable resignation to the CESAFI Board last December when some member teams opposed some of his ideas. That includes preventing teams from joining tournaments other than the CESAFI.
Some eyebrows were also raised when Tiukinhoy campaigned for the Southwestern University and the University of San Carlos to snub the National Students Basketball Championships here at the Cebu Colisuem. Those schools, however, made a change of heart.
The retention of his post was not only a vindication to Tiukinhoy, but also showed that he thrived on controversies. (GGM)
