Cokaliong, 4 others among CECABA’s top achievers

Prolific outside gunner Chester C. Cokaliong of Class ’78 and four other players joined the cast of top individual achievers in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup, which formally dropped off its curtains last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Cokaliong bagged his second straight scoring championship with a 23.0 average points per game this season. It was his third CECABA scoring title having garnered the same accolade in 2004 and seventh overall in his career.

Breathing down Cokaliong’s neck is Junwynn Dy of Class 2006 with a clip of 22.8 ppg followed by Kent Benedict Uy of Class 2005 with 22.3 ppg and Samuel Sia of Class ’84 with 21.75 ppg.

The fifth to 10th scoring leaders were Ryan Alexis Mendez of Class ’89 (21.5 ppg), Division 2 MVP Donald Anthong Ting of Class ’95 (20.7 ppg), Erick Andrew So of Class ’98-A (20.67 ppg), Stephen Tan of Class ’83 (20.63 ppg), Philip John Lua of Class 2005 (19.6 ppg), and Richard Lanutan of Class ’92 (19.5 ppg).

Wilson Yu of Class ’85, Richard Yu of Class ’88, Ryan Alexis Mendez of Class ’89, and Aljhune Areja of Class 2004 also excelled in their respective fields.

Wilson Yu dominated the rebounding department with a norm of 13.57 rebounds per game, Richard Yu emerged as the league’s “Tapal King” with 2.63 blocks per game, Mendez is the king of steals with 4.13 steals per game, and Areja topped the assists category with 6.3 feeds per game.

Edison Ong of Class ’93 placed second in rebounding with 13.0 rpg followed by Richard Yu (12.75 rpg), Samuel Sia of Class ’84 (12.5 rpg), Edvin Kaw of Class ’85 (12.14 rpg), Paul Timothy So of Class ’98-A (12.0 rpg), Mitchel Diputado of Class ’92 (11.83 rpg), Stephen Tan of Class ’83 (11.13 rpg), Troy Symington Tan of Class ’99 (10.71 rpg), and Christian Espada of Class 2004 (9.5 rpg).

Trailing Yu in the blocks department are Robinson Yap of Class ’98-B (2.57 bpg), Lawrence Yap of Class 2005 (2.38 bpg), Kenneth Chang of Class 2007 (2.3 bpg), Eliot Emerson Uy of Class 2004 (2.0 bpg), Edvin Kaw of Class ’85 (1.86 bpg), Samuel Sia (1.63 bpg), Stephen Tan (1.63 bpg), Vicenty Ty III of Class ’91 (1.5 bpg), Edwin Ong of Class ’89 (1.38 bpg), and Wilson Yu (1.29 bpg).

Rounding up the top 10 steals leaders are Paul Timothy So (3.5 apg), Rod Kristopher Angcay of Class 2005 (3.33 spg), Nolsie John Cisneros (3.3 spg), Junwynn Dy (3.1 spg), Juan Carlo Espada of Class 2007 (2.89 (spg), Donald Anthony Ting, Aljhune Areja, and Philip John Lua (2.7 spg), Rodney Co, Jed Lawrence Co, Alwyn Ong, and Chester Benedict Go (2.0 spg), Ghetto Beldeniza, Peter Dy, and Richard Lanutan (1.88 spg), and Andy Sungapo (1.86 spg).

Completing the top 10 perfomers in assists are Rod Kristopher Angcay (6.17 apg), Paul Timothy So (6.0 apg), Emerson Go (5.43 apg), Jeffrey Go (4.86 apg), Wilty Yap (4.43 apg), Richard Yu (4.0 apg), Wilson Yu (3.71 apg), Christian Espada (3.6 apg), and Edvin Kaw (3.43 apg).

Edison Ong of Class ’93 is tops in offensive rebounding with 6.25 orpg, while Edvin Kaw rules the defensive side with 10.29 drpg.

Mitchel Diputado of Class ’92 holds the best free throw percentage at 83 percent, Donald Anthony Ting was cited for owning the best 2-point field goal percentage at 60 percent, Kent Benedict Uy of Class 2005 posted the best 3-point field goal percentage, while Henrich Chua of Class ’87 was feted for the most number of consecutive free throws in a game with 10.
