Chester Enterprises ’82/83 harvests CECABA individual awards
The Chester Enterprises-sponsored Class ’82/83 stalwarts were among the biggest individual winners in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup, which formally came to a close with a Fun Day and awarding ceremony last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Edito Salacut, current mentor of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) provided the icing on their victory cake as he copped the “Coach of the Year” award for piloting Class ’82/83 to the Division 1 championship in the face of tough opposition.
Scoring machine Stephen Tan romped off with the Division 1 regular season MVP, while power-playing forward Edwin Lim was crowned as the Finals MVP. The defense-oriented Christopher Cokaliong had his fair share of the spotlight after being named as the “Most Improved Player” for the 2008 season.
Tan, who is the league’s eighth leading scorer with a 20.67 average points per game, and Edwin Lim, automatically made it to the Division 1 Mythical Five alongside Richard Yu (center) of Dewfoam ’88, Emerson Go (point guard) and Juan Borromeo, Jr. (shooting guard) both of losing finalist Young Builders ’91.
The Division 2 Mythical Five were Donald Ting (point guard) and Dean Dy Teves (center) of Henkel Philippines ’95, Dreyfuss Ang (shooting guard) and Shaun Christopher Wang (power forward) of Castrol ’96, and Christian Espada (small forward) of Welcoat Paints 2004.
The Division 2 regular season MVP was Donald Anthony Ting, while the Finals MVP plum went to Dean Dy Teves.
Ting, who is sixth in scoring with a norm of 20.7 ppg, was also cited for being the league’s first player to scale the 3,000-point plateau. He reached the milestone during their game against Class 2006 last April 10 at the City Sports Club.
