“Dommy Ursua died yesterday (Sunday) afternoon completely penniless. I am trying to raise funds for his burial expense and to help his surviving wife,” conveyed Aldeguer in a text message.
Ursua fought twice for the world title in a losing cause. He dropped an 11th round TKO decision to Raul Macias in their National Boxing Association World bantamweight title bout on
After a string of defeats, Ursua finally retired from boxing in 1961, compiling a 26-28 win-loss record dotted with 20 victories by knockout in a checkered career that spanned for nine years.
Although he did not win a single title, Ursua is best remembered by ring fans of his era for his tenacity and big fighting heart.
