20 towns join LMP-Cebu hoopla

A total of 20 municipalites in Cebu province took part in the 1st League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Cebu Developmental Basketball League, which kicked off with a bang last Wednesday at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

LMP-Cebu president and Dumanjug Mayor Cesar Baricuatro is very elated with the huge turnaround of entries in the tournament that is aimed at harnessing the skills of aspiring hoopsters in the province up to the grassroots level.

The 20 teams which joined the LMP opening were Compostela, Cordova, Liloan, Asturias, Tuburan, Minglanilla, Dumanjug, Sibonga, Moalboal, Alegria, Malabuyoc, Ginatilan, Samboan, Santander, Boljoon, Dalaguete, San Fernando, Madridejos and Argao.

Highlighting the simple, yet memorable opening ceremony was the selection of the Miss LMP 2008 won by Miss Elfbeth Abapo of Santander. The 17-year-old beauty is a sophomore BS Nursing student of the University of Cebu (UC).

Santander Mayor Wilson Wenceslao relayed his congratulatory message to Abapo through Baricuatro, who handed the P3,000 cash prize assisted by commissioner Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez. (GGM)
