Enriquez rules Liloan chessfest

NM Rogelio Enriquez fought to a draw with Voltaire Sevillano in the final round, but that was all he needed to rule the open division of the Liloan SK Cup Chess Tournament at the Liloan gym.

Enriquez and Adonis Buenaventura were actually tied with 6.0 points at the end of the 7-round Swiss system competition.

Enriquez, however, was declared champion by virtue of a superior tie-break output of 32 points. Buenaventura got only 30.5 points.

Rounding up the top 10 finishers were Ramsey Pendroza, Kim Steven Yap, Voltaire Sevillano, Joel Pacuribot, Mario Mangubat, Fide Master Anthony Makinano, Richard Natividad,and Eden Diano.

In the juniors division, King James Torres won the title with 6.0 points. He avoided complications by crushing CY Balbuena in the last round.

Yuri Cauba and Shawn Patrick Osorno finished with 5.5 points, but Cauba settled for the second place honors courtesy of a higher tie-breaker. He got 32.0 points, while Osorno registered only 27.5

Edgar Macapos grabbed part of the limelight by emerging as the best junior player among the entries from Liloan.

In the kiddies category, Jan Cleomar Tilus reigned supreme with 6.0 points. Ramond Abellana placed second followed by Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano.
