USPF now 3-0 in Shakey’s volleyball; USC, GGC reach finals in Liloan Open

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) belles bolstered their grandslam bid after claiming their third straight victory in as many games in the 3rd Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League yesterday at their home turf.

Behind the walloping attacks of Universal Player awardee Danika Gendrauli, Jinky Garidos, Diane Navaja and Kaise delos Santos, the USPF mainstays hammered out a lopsided  25-11, 25-14 victory over the University of Cebu (UC).

It was a rude welcome for the Spiking Webmasters in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League as they suffered back-to-back defeats in one day.

After begging off to play during the opening day because of  scheduling conflicts, UC was forced to play two consecutive games.

UC bowed to the Thelma  Datig-mentored Abellana National School (ANS), 25-14, 25-19 before falling prey to USPF.

Meanwhile, the undefeated University of San Carlos Warriors and Team GGC bested separate foes to gain championship tickets in their respective divisions in the 1st Mayor Duke Frasco Volleyball Open yesterday at the Liloan gym. 

The USC Warriors of Coach Eugene de la Cerna trounced Team Paul Yu in four sets, 25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 25-19.

The smart plays and powerful attacks of two-time Cesafi MVP Roderick Arenasa, Edward Carlo Tecson with the triumvirate of Kennith Bensig, Jesriel Pino and Bonvie Estrera paved the way for USC’s victory.

In the distaff side, the GGC belles recovered from a first-set drawback to edge out Team Paul Yu at 21-25, 25-11, 26-24, 25-21.

GGC is manned by some of Cebu’s hottest volleyball players in the likes of Florianne Gutierrez, Jusabelle Brillo, Janez Armie Igot, Marissa Lagancia, Kennette Garces, and Kimberly Gendrauli-Dabatos.

In the other semifinal games, Lilo-an’s Designer Team thumped Talisay City Selection  25-14, 25-21, 25-22, while Team Consolacion stunned the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Lady Panthers, 25-20, 25-22, 15-25 and 25-21.

Team Consolacion’s Arlene Maloloy-on, Cheche Bohol, Marites Natad and Irene Montesino showed great team effort in silencing the younger USPF Lady Panthers.
