The Mandaue JCI of businessman Joey Cal trounced Landview Property, 70-63, at the start of the Jaycees Basketball Association (JBA) President’s Cup 2008 at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
The two protagonists engaged in an air-tight battle with Landview taking just a hairline lead, 54-53, going into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The duo of Raymond Gollon and Dominic Hing sparked the early assault for the Landviewers, who maintained a slim advantage with the support of Mark Hing and Oliver Go.
However, the Mandaue Jaycees unleashed a blazing 17-9 run behind the efforts of Dindo Cortes, Nestor Patindol and Richie Garcia to take control of the match.
Kenneth Pasayan and Edgar Colina joined the fray by delivering crucial six points apiece for the Jaycees in the final stretch.
Cortes and Patindol powered Mandaue JCI with 14 points each, while Garcia added 11 points.
Gollon had 13 points for Landview Property. Dominic and Mark Hing conspired for 21 markers in a losing cause.
Meanwhile, the JBA President’s Cup 2008 is made possible through the initiative of its president/commissioner Atty. Donato “Don” Gonzales, JCI Senator Ray Salgado and chairman Engr. Reeve Jumawan.
Six teams are seeing action in the tournament;JCI Mandaue, RC Goldline, Purcia Transport System Inc., Versacool, JCI Metro Cebu Uptown Jaycees Foundation and Landview Property.
Purcia Transport’s Cynthia Tac-an and Landview’s Mary Grace Reyes shared the Best Muse award.
Dexter So and Cris Banal of RC Goldline, who got a total of 14 points, topped the free throw shooting competition title, while the 3-point shootout crown went to Landview’s Chester Go and Michael Hing with 15 points. — Marigold P. Lebumfacil, Correspondent
