The much-anticipated 2nd Cebu Beach Soccer Competition kicks off this morning in Basdaku, Moalboal.
A total of 32 teams are taking part in the tournament, 22 in the men’s division and nine in the distaff side.
Leading the cast of entries is the San Roque Football Club, the defending champion in both divisions.
Two visiting squads are expected to give the local bets a tough battle. These are the San Carlos City in the men’s side and La Salle Alumni of Bacolod in the women’s class.
The other competing squads in the men’s division are the Football Club-International Cebu, San Roque Royale United, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Cebu State College of Science and Technology, Balamban, Mongers, Queen City United, XP or expats, Danao, Bangan, Barili, Don Bosco Lawaan, SJB, Cravings, Kapuge and host Moalboal.
The rest of the entries in the women’s bracket are the Melbourne,Turnbouts, La Niña, Marlow and Don Bosco.
Aside from the title and prizes at stake, this Cebu Football Association (CebuFA)-sanctioned event also serves as a selection for the Cebu Team that will be tapped to see action in the National Open later this month in San Carlos City.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
