M. Lhuillier summer basketball challenge: USC, Don Bosco off to hot starts

-

The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and  Don Bosco Greywolves opened their respective titles bid in resounding fashion at the start of the 2008 M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Summer Basketball Challenge the other day at the Cebu Coliseum.

The USC Warriors walloped the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 83-73, while the Greywolves pinned down the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers, 100-92.

Giovanni Padillo scattered 21 points for the USC Warriors, who were in full command of the march after closing the first period with a 27-20 edge.

The Greywolves, on the other hand, used a crippling second quarter rally to blow off the  Skyblazers.

Leading by only four after the first 10 minutes of play, 25-21, the Greywolves launched a 27-18 spurt to mount a baker’s dozen lead at halftime, 52-39.

The Skyblazers retaliated with a 31-22 blast in the third to chop the lead down to only four, 70-74, but the Greywolves kept their poise and composure until the closing seconds of the match to preserve the win.
