Some of the country’s best beach volleyball players will converge starting today in the northern town part of the province for the 1st San Remigio Beach Volleyball Open in the town’s natural white sand shoreline.
Newly-crowned Nestea Beach Volley national champs, Janelle Tabio and four-time Nestea national titleholder Florian Gutierrez of the Janeth Ponte-coached Southwestern University (SWU), will open the matches as they play against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) of Ericka Camille Verano and SAC awardee Danika Gendrauli.
The fancied University of the Visayas (UV) of Jusabelle Brillo and
Janez Igot will face Jeremie Montalvo and Juvie Glipo of the University of San Carlos.
The battle between the Volley Gals of Marites Natad and Christine Rose Bohol against Atenian’s Michelle Gemarino and Jovy Abellana is the featured third match.
The last match in the morning pits the tandem of Marissa Lagancia and Kenneth Garces of the Volleybelles against XOXO’s April Tamayo and Irene Montesino.
The matches will only have one game race to 25 and the eight teams were divided into two brackets.
Bracket A is composed of SWU, Volley Gals, USPF and Atenians while bracket B has UV, Volleybelles, USC and XOXO.
The tournament follows the single round robin format in the elimination round.
The top two teams for each bracket will also play against each other.
Whoever ranks first and second, will vie for the championships tomorrow while the third and fourth will fight for the third place.
The champions will pocket P5, 000 while P3, 000 and P2, 000 will be given to the second and third placers, respectively.
The opening ceremonies today starts at 7:30 with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia together with Rep. Benhur Salimbangon of the 4th district mayors and the Cebu Volleyball Association officials set to attend.
The 1st San Remigio Ladies Open is organized by San Remigio local government in cooperation with the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA).
