Registration for the 1st Albino D. Gothong Memorial Golf Tournament dubbed as the ‘Amo Cup’ was opened last weekend due to insistent public demand.
It seems to be the question that many golfers are asking these days as those people I see at the driving range have been asking me about the tournament.
The entry fee is P3,000 and the giveways alone are guaranteed to be worth double that amount. This also includes one mulligan for every nine holes so you don’t have to shell out a few more hundreds on tournament day.
This is going to be on June 5 and 6 at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club and is also open to non-members of the club.
Only those who have paid for their registration will be given slots.

A month after the Amo Cup, another big event is set at Alta Vista as the club holds The View Invitational 2008 on July 3 to 6.
This is the annual member-guest event and the club’s signature tournament. This has been aptly named as “The View” due to the magnificent view that you see when playing at the course.
For lousy golfers like this deadline beater, the view offers a good reason to come back even after another poor round.
A few pars or maybe a birdie or two can be a great encouragement to play again, but for me, the view is one consideration that makes me go back to the club just to enjoy the sight even if I don’t play.
The tournament committee of The View Invitational 2008 will be meeting again this morning to finalize the details of the event.

I was with the officers of the Central Command and the Recoletos priests and brothers for a fun shoot last Tuesday at the Centcom range inside Camp Lapu-Lapu.
The fun shoot was a side event to what could be a basketball rivalry between the two groups. Of course, this is not like the rivalry of the Celtics and Lakers or Crispa and
I missed their game last Tuesday night though, which according to my sources, the Recoletos priests again won.
I heard game three is set tonight in an undisclosed venue to keep their fans from flocking to the arena…hehehe.

I’ll try to include interesting bits and pieces about sports as suggested by Sr. Supt, Augusto Marquez, Jr. our kuya in the famous Cebu Squad.
In 1967 college basketball rule makers declared the dunk illegal during games and warm ups after one season of witnessing UCLA’s 7-2 Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar).
The dunk was reinstated by the NCAA in 1976.

MILESTONES: I’d like to greet several people a very happy birthday today. They are my “little sister” Marsante G. Alison, my high school classmate Atty. Ernest B. Montecillo, and Jen Vega of the Lifestyle Section.
Belated birthday greetings also go to Lady Genevieve Cabahug-Ybañez, who turned a year older last Monday and to my wife’s nephew Julius Reyes Ybarrita, who turned a year older yesterday.
Congratulations to Lt. Gen. Victor S. Ibrado, who was recently named as the new Army chief replacing his mistah Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano, who was named as the new Chief of Staff of the AFP.
More power to all of you!
