BORACAY ISLAND — Defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) smothered seperate foes to advance into the semifinal round of the Nestea Beach Volley Seaon 12 yesterday here at the paradise island.
Jusabelle Brillo and Janez Armie Igot of the Raffy Briones-mentored UV recovered from a second-set debacle to trounce Janelle Tabio and Florianne Gutierrez, 21-15, 15-21, 15-12, in the women’s division.
UV’s victory put SWU of coach Janeth Ponte into a must-win situation against Adamson University this morning.
Adamson’s Rizza Jane Laguilles and Angela Benting kept their semifinal hopes alive with a 21-17 and 21-19 triumph over Erika Camille Verano and Herlene Ybarita of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).
In the men’s bracket though, USPF has something to cheer about as its bets
Jonrey Sasing and James Ryan Rivera bounced back from an opening set drawback to trounce Aristian Sartin and Marcelo Joaquin of the University of Perpetual Help-Dalta in three sets.
USPF bowed to UPH-D after two slides in the first set, 26-28 but c harged back oozing with confidence to sweep the next two sets, 21-10 and 15-10.
The semifinal round will be contested this morning, while the championship matches in both division will be played in the afternoon.
