Cebu teams get off to flying start in Nestea Beach Volley Season 12

BORACAY ISLAND—Defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) started hot in its title retention bid, whipping fellow Cebu team University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 2-0, yesterday in Nestea Beach Volley Season 12 here.

UV’s beach volley queens Janez Armie Igot and Jusabelle Brillo overpowered USPF’s duo of Erika Camille Verano and Herelene Ybarita, 21-11 and 21-18.

Coach Raffy Briones-mentored University of the Visayas made an impressive start by showing off their full blast attacks, which enliven the crowd.

“I was pretty much happy with their performance but we still need to strive hard in order to improve our games because the girls will be facing the top teams all over the country. I believe all the teams have really prepared for this sporting event,” said UV coach Raffy Briones.

Florianne Gutierrez and Janelle Tabio of Southwestern University (SWU), on the other hand, were similarly impressive in its 21-11, 26-16 rout of Adamson University.

In the men’s bracket, USPF’s Jonrey “Air” Sasing and James Ryan Rivera survived a three-set thriller over Emmanuel Marlon Luces and Mark Sabusap of the
