Jingjing Gacayan spewed offensive fire in the third period to lift the combined forces of Batch ’70s/81 past Batch ’83, 87-79, in the San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (SCBHABA) at the USC-North Campus gym along Gen. Maxilom Avenue, this city.
Gacayan inspired a spirited rally that vaulted Class ’70s/81 to a 15-point lead in the third quarter, 59-44. Batch ’70s/81 never looked back from there to end the first round of elimination with a 4-2 win-loss record.
Despite suffering a pulled muscle with only six minutes left in the game, Gacayan dished out a game-high 26 points including three straight triples that triggered a tide-turning 6-0 rally for Batch ’70s/81.
Dean Wong heavily backed up Gacayan with 20 markers.
Islaw Gerali paced Batch ’83 with 25 points. Bernie dela Rosa, who was among those who instigated their shortlived comeback that saw them pulling within four points, finished with 10 points.
Class ’83 was on top at the end of the first period, 18-12, but was outscored by Batch ’70s/81 in the final half, 34-22.
