2008 Palarong Pambansa: Central Visayas out to regain glory
PUERTO PRINCESA – Outgoing DepEd-7 director Caroleno B. Mordeno has not put too much pressure on the athletes and coaches but is hoping that Central Visayas would be able to regain its long lost glory as hostilities in the 2008 Palarong Pambansa formally kicks off today at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex here.
The last time Cental Visayas topped the multi-sport gathering was when it hosted the event in 1994. Last year in Koronadal, the region settled for only fourth place overall.
As Mordeno sets off for retirement, it would be more memorable for him if he sees the region’s athletes come up with a remarkable performance.
“We have seen athletes progressing. They have the potentials. They have been exposed to different competitions. Through the years, sa ako time, we have improved I believe and we could still make it better,” Mordeno said.
Mordeno also pays tribute to the different associations and their respective schools in the region, which have had helped molded their athletes to be at par with the rest.
Meanwhile, the medal-rich athletics competition will commence today, while swimming will begin on Tuesday yet. The schedules of other events are not yet available as of this writing. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
