Rubi leads 10th Ornopia Cup winners

Pepo Rubi, the revitalized heart-and-soul of Castrol-Quickflight Racing Team, literally sprayed dirt to his opponents to win the 10th Ornopia Cup, which also served as the third leg of the 2008 MS Motosuit Motocross Series last Sunday in Calambua, San Remigio.

For the third straight time, the race in all heats had been cut short due to the “unplayable” racetrack. More importantly, event organizer Lou Ornopia and the technical committee don’t want to risk the safety of the riders.

Knowing all that, Rubi poured in all his energy and raced like the terrains were not muddy at all. His audacity paid of as he went on to rule the experts division in runaway fashion.

Reigning MS Motosuit “Rider of the Year” Juvanni Abellar finished second followed by Paul Inoc.

The victory was Rubi’s second in three legs, so far. He won the season’s inaugural offering in Liloan.

Rubi was doubly happy as his Castrol teammates also fared well in their respective classes led by Bonnie Bustillo, who snatched two titles via the 125 local enduro and the novice open production.

Bustillo edged out Donkey Sanchez for the top spot in the 125 local enduro as Paul Inoc came out third. The second and third placers in the novice open production were Ayen Ledesma and Sanchez, respectively.

Keith Babano Galaura spiced up CQT’s glorious day with as runner-up finish in the mini class, while the father-and-son tandem of Emmanuel and Klark Wagas settled for third in the executive B and intermediate open.

Birthday boy Seigfred Ornopia of Keiz BZ Motor Sales also gave himselft a fitting birthday gift with a pair of runner-up finishes. Ornopia placed behind Tata Omoli in the executive B and settled second to Nonoy Reluya in the executive A.

Paulo Inoc, on the other hand, ruled the intermediate class over Rex Barbaso and Clark Wagas, while the executive C was dominated by Julius Santillan with Alex Arevalo and Tata Omulo winding up second and third.

Ayen Ledesma topped the novice open enduro followed by Ryan Querol and Sanchez, while Norman Pautan reigned supreme in the beginner’s open production over Ryan Querol and Jon-Jon Flores.

Glenn “D ‘King” Aguilar, meanwhile, gained more admiration from fans and the riders themselves for showing no “star complex” as he agreed to race in the special pro class even as it meant so much risk for his career.

Aguilar was never a disappointment as he zoomed to the top post with ease, outclassing Juvanni Abellar of PowerSports Racing and Paulo Inoc.

The event ended up anew with flying colors through the support of Castrol Power 1, Imarflex Battery Manufacturing, Reliance, Andy Uy, Keiz BJ Motorsales, Norkis Trading Corporation, F&Fo Motorparts, Cebu Progress Manufacturing,CEVETCO, LJ Marble & Construction Supply, Engr. Joy Flores, RMO Motorsales, MS Digital Prints, and 888 Muffler Tech Header Core.
