Motel, Honoridez bag top awards in PRISAA table tennis

Michael Motel of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters got back-to-back MVP titles, while his mentor Jessica Jawad-Honoridez was acclaimed as the Most  Outstanding Coach at the end of the table tennis event of the 2008 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games yesterday at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Zamboanga City.

UC’s Motel retained his crown after bagging golds in the men’s singles and team events, showing exemplary performance in all his matches.

Interestingly, Honoridez is claiming the award for the fourth straight year.

At the close of the week-long event yesterday, PRISAA hauled eight more golds, seven silvers and 13 bronzes. Four golds came from table tennis, while two each were from lawn tennis and badminton.

Unfortunately, Central Visayas suffered a gold-medal blackout in swimming event. The best it could muster was a silver from Zoe Minguito in the 50m butterfly event. He also had a bronze in the 200m Individual Medley.   Gwencent Cañada got bronze in the 100m breastroke and the other bronze medal came from the women’s 4x200 free relay.

In basketball, the PRISAA-VII, manned by the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors, lost to University of Sto. Tomas in the final to go home with just five silvers

In volleyball, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) Lady Jaguars of coach Grace Antigua settled for bronze after trouncing PRISAA-III, 25-12, 25-19, 25-17.

Their men’s counterparts failed to get a medal as they lost to Western Visayas in a five-set thriller in the battle for third place.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol and Marigold P. Lebumfacil
