CV tankers to make splash today

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol, Marigold Lebumfacil -

Central Visayas tankers are hoping to make a splash at the pool today.
Today is the final day of swimming event, and  if  they want to make up for their sub-par performance, it has to be today.
Zoe Menguito saved Region-VII’s day from a medal shutout by winning silver in the 100-m butterfly. This is her second silver in the 2008 PRISAA National Games at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Zamboanga City.
Meanwhile, UC’s George Pinanonang is now out of danger after sustaining a serious injury in the hurdles. Pinanonang was the one who was hurt not USPF’s Haren Mellindez as earlier reported. Mellindez told The Freeman that he too was injured but not as serious as Pinanonang.
The other PRISAA-VII athletes have to contend with silvers in many events. UC’s Marife Serenas and Angeline Giangan settled for silver in the team event. The players, however, got a little consolation when they received special awards for their performance in Board I and Board 4, respectively.
Dancesport, usually, a gold mine for Central Visayas, could only show silver and two bronze medals courtesy of  Princess Inocando and Jed Mahusay of UC, who won silver and bronze in Rhumba and Latin. USPF’s Sherbert Farinas and Barbie Valiente won the other bronze in Jive.
Central Visayas’ sepak takraw and football teams were relegated to bronze medal matches after losing in the semifinals.
In volleyball, the University of San Carlos men’s spikers entered the semifinals with a 6-0 slate after beating Davao 25-20, 23-25, 25-18 and 20-25. They will face PRISAA-III, represented by Angeles, Pampanga.
In the women’s competition, USJ-R Lady Jaguars lost to Davao 29-27, 25-27, 25-27 and 22-25, and has to defeat defending champions Western Visayas to advance to the gold medal match.
PRISAA-VII’s table tennis and badminton squads hope to get more medals as they play in the finals in the individual events.
