Time Out basketball clinic expands in Liloan and Danao

Aspiring hoopsters in the northern part of Cebu will have a chance to further hone up their skills as the Time Out Summer Basketball Clinic expands in the municipality of Liloan and in Danao City.

The Liloan swing of the summer cage clinic spearheaded by Rex Salvaña, former Cebu Gems assistant coach in the now defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), will start on April 7 at the Liloan Kai Sports Complex. The Danao leg will open on April 13 at the Danao City Sports and Civic Center.

The two-month program, which is open to both boys and girls, consists of two levels:the beginners for seven to 12 years old players and the advanced for 13 to 17 years old basketeers.

Training sessions will be from 8 to 10 am for the beginners and from 10am to 12nn for the advanced campers on Mondays to Saturdays.

Entry fee is reasonably pegged at P1,000 inclusive of a basketball and training uniform. For registration and other inquiries, one may call/text 0916-5644385 or 0916-4534639.

To ensure quality training, Salvaña, who steered Holcim Pryce Pharma MisOr to a grandslam feat in the Mindanao Division of the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA), has hired the services of topnotch coaches who are former cage stars during their prime to assist him in running the camp.

They are Reggie Licanda, the current head coach of the University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters, Opel Abellana, presently the chief bench tactician of the University of San Carlos (USC)-South Campus, and former pro star Teroy Albarillo, who also had several coaching  stints in the commercial circuit.

“Our main goal here is to provide quality training to our students. We’ve been doing this (clinic) for 10 years now and it’s very gratifying to note that we’re getting bigger and better each year,” said Salvaña. “The fact that more kids are partonizing our clinic already speaks for what kind of training we are offering.”
