Cebuano dance athletes glitter in Manila tourney

Dancesport-Team Cebu City sizzled with 14 golds, seven silvers and three bronzes, even as the lean Mandaue team came up with two silvers and three bronzes in the 2008 DanceSport Council of the Philippines (DSCPI) First Quarterly Rankings and Competition at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

After a sterling finish in the inaugural Philippine Star Ball recently, Eleanor Hayco, who teamed up with Lloyd Bartolini, bagged the gold in the standard special event 2 female. She also got a bronze in the latin SE 2f along with Jimmy Noel.

Ricca Alix and Renante Saldua, on the other hand, showed so much ease with their long-time partnership to top the senior A standard.

New breeds Kathleen Joy and Jason Deluvio, Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda, and Samson Orlanes and Mae Pabuaya also stamped their respective class in the modern standard and latin dances of their respective divisions.

Aunzo and Caneda handed over the most number of golds after ruling the junior A modern standard and latin as well as the junior C standard.The Deluvios,for their part, topped the juvenile division, while Orlanes and Pabuaya lorded it over in youth A.

Jumil Bacalso and Daine Balili and Kevin Minoza and Rhoda Fernandez, who enlisted themselves back with DTCC, split the golds at stake in the youth A, with the former winning the standard action and the latter in the latin class.

Rodulfo Beltran and Gemville Dela Cerna snatched the gold in standard grade E, while Jojit Cabuenas and Maerlyn Caspasio reigned supreme in the senior latin.  Ismael Sarmiento and Cecelia Llamedo shone the brightest in senior C standard action.

Real-life couple Joel and Anna Madera, DTCC’s top bets in the premier modern standard A, also lived up to expectations by taking home a silver medal.

The comebacking Lowel Bernados and Jeanen Bergado immediately made an impact by winning silver in grade B standard.

The other silver medal contributors for DTCC were Marlon Segismar and Antoniette Almeda in standard E, Kelly Deluvio and Grace Diana Salud in the junior C standard, Geovanne Dawa and Michaelyn Ledda in SE 1 f, Christopher Albert Corro and Lilibeth Paz in SE 1 male action, and Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda in junior C latin.

Aside from Hayco and Noel, two other DTCC mainstays went home with a bronze medal each. They are Romeo Cialbo and Hannah Jane Deluvio in SE 1 F and Bjorn Torreon and Theresa Tan in standard grade E.

On the other hand, the Maricris Hermosa-coached Team Mandaue-Visayas grabbed two silvers and three bronzes.

Kino Tamarra and Sabrina Ruth Bogart had a double silver via the juvenile latin and standard class. Diana Nillson and Nino Malazarte settled for bronze in both action, while Sayre “Pinggay” Bongo and Spudscottie Saquin also got bronze through the latin youth C.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) dancesport director Edward Hayco, Rebecca “Ricca” Alix and Loloi Rendon retained their posts as members of the DSCPI Board of Directors.
