2nd M. Lhuillier beach volley blasts off at Wiggy’s this a.m.

The 2nd M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala All-Ladies Beach Volley tournament comes off the wraps at 8:30 am today with an exciting eight games on tap at the Wiggy’s Beach Resort in Liloan, Cebu.

Before the games proper, a simple opening ceremony will take place to be graced the Liloan councilor Hon. Bobby Motus, event organizer and M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF) executive director Eddie B. Ybañez, and Cebu Volleyball Federation (CVF) president Raul Gonzales.

Defending champion Jusabelle Brillo and Janez Armie Ygot of the University of the Visayas (UV) and Kimberly Ybañez and Jeremie Montalvo of the University of San Carlos (USC) are booked for two games in the opening salvo of the month-long tilt.

UV of coach Raffy Briones will go up against Erika Camille Verano and Herlene Ybarita of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Team A in the third game at 10:30 am. They will then tackle the Inayagan belles at 3:30 pm.

USC of coach Norvie “Making” Labuga, on the other hand, will tangle with Kennette Garces and Sarah Miculob of Team MLKP in the last game of the morning session. Up next for the Carolinians is the Abellana National School (ANS) in the final action of the day.

In the first game at 9 am, Michelle Simbajon and Genie Sabas of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Team A will battle Lori Mae Layno and Jessa Satina of Southwestern University (SWU) Team B, while Christine Rose Bohol and Marites Natad of Arthro Kontra Arthritis will mix it up with Aina “Popsie” Laroga and Joy Bonita of USJ-R Team B.

In the opening duel of the afternoon session at 1:30 pm, Mechelle Matuguina and Marissa Lagancia of Heartvit will face RTM of Fr. Rolando Manayon. In the next game,  Janelle Tabio and Florianne Gutierrez of SWU Team A will test the mettle of USPF Team B.

The competition followed a single round robin format with the top two teams per bracket advancing into the crossover semifinals. The winners will then clash for the championship.

Aside from trophies, the champion will receive P5,000, while the second and third placers will pocket P3,000 and P2,000, respectively. – EBV
