Welcoat 2004 and Castrol ‘96 maintain unbeaten records

-

Welcoat Paints 2004 and Castrol ’96 easily disposed their respective foes to join the elite circle of unbeaten teams in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

The deadly triumvirate of Danel Hayag, Aljhune Areja and Christian Espada had another explosive showing as Class 2004 battered Jepoy Sales Inc. 2001, 79-47, for its third win in a row, while Class ’96 cruised to its second straight win with a 51-44 whacking of JRJ Enterprises 2007.

Hayag fired 19 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals for Class 2004, which relentlessly clobbered Class 2001 in the first two quarters to tear the game apart at halftime, 53-19. The rest was history.

Areja added 16 points, five assists and three steals, while Espada contributed 15 markers, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals for Class 2004. The team’s newest revelation was Cris Jake Alves, who posted season-highs 12 points, seven caroms, and two blocks.

Marlon Lao  hit 15 markers and Tom Andres added 12 and four six rebounds as Class 2001 evened its win-loss mark to 2-2.

Rogelio Donayre, on the other hand, was the main catalyst in helping Class ’96 preserve its clean slate. He finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

Shaun Cristopher Wang pitched in 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists for Class ’96, which did not give Class 2007 a chance to pull away after closing the first half with a 26-18 advantage.

Team director Raymark Ryan Ong pumped in 24 points on top of six rebounds, two assists and two steals but his singular offensive outburst went to waste as Class 2007 crashed to its third loss in four starts. —EBV
