The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and University of San Carlos (USC) posted back-to-back victories at the start of the 2nd Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Men and Women’s Beach Volley event yesterday at the Inayagan Beach Resort in Naga City.
The USJ-R Jaguars of coach Grace Antigua hammered the University of Cebu (UC), 25-7, behind the efforts of Ariel Carumba and Loujie Tipgos who ruled over UC’s Jonathan Iñez and Francis Llaguno.
USC of coach Norvie Labuga, on the other hand, banked on the skills of two-time CESAFI MVP awardee Roderick Arenasa and Edward Carlo Tecson in dominating James Ryan Rivera and newcomer Edward Ybañez of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 25-15.
In the distaff side, the USJ-R Lady Jaguars manned by former Junior RP Team member Genie Sabas and Michelle Simbajon whipped Erika Camille Verano and Herelene Ybarita, 25-23.
The Lady Warriors bannered by Kuim Ybañez and Jerymie Montalvo, for their part, had to go through some scary moments before pulling off a 26-24 squeaker over the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) tandem of Lynette Auza and Katherine Fe Cemanes.
Southwestern University’s new pair of Lorie Layno and Jessa Satina immediately made an impact in the local beach volley scene in by trouncing UC’s Jade Pilapil and Madel Salinas.
