Cobras swallow Jaguars in friendly match

The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras struck hard against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars and easily scored a 74-52 victory during their goodwill encounter dubbed as the 22nd People Power 1 Anniversary Celebration Basketball Showdown yesterday at the USC-Main Gym.

The event was sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission through the initiative of its newly-conferred executive director Fr. Vic L. Uy, SVD.

The Cobras pulled away right after the opening tip-off to enjoy and took a commanding 28-6 lead at the end of the first period. They led by as much as 32 points, leaving no doubts as to who will smoke the victory cigar at the final buzzer.

Most of the Cobras’ key players cashed in double figures led by Alfred Belande and Clifford Maguate with 13 points apiece.

Aside from their free-flowing offense, the Cobras also shackled the Jaguars with their stifling defense.

Jabe Delfino paced the Jaguars with 13 points.

In the women’s action, defending CESAFI champion University of San Carlos (USC) Warriorettes wasted away a huge lead but recovered in time to repulse the University of Cebu (UC) Lady Webmasters, 78-75. (GGM)
