CebuFA election hit a snag

-

The election of the Cebu Football Association (CebuFA) did not push through as scheduled yesterday at the Cebu Country Club. Instead, the group formed an ad hoc committee that will oversee the football affairs in Cebu.

Richard Montayre was chosen by six other members as chairman of the  ad hoc committee.

Montayre said the committee will again meet on Tuesday to decide on the criteria for the election, which they will then present to the CebuFA Board on March 1 tentatively at Bright Academy.

Montayre said even if the election was held, they will still contest its result because it did not undergo the right process. This even with the presence of Tony Velez, a representative from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).

The Freeman learned that only a few knew about the supposed election, but was spread to members of the local football association.

“Nobody among the members were informed of today’s (yesterday) election, only the Board. But the information spread so we went there,” Montayre said.

The members, who attended the meeting “uninvited,” questioned the legality of the election.

To settle the argument, the ad hoc committee was formed.

Montayre said before electing a new set of officers, the members should elect first the members of the Board. Afterwhich, the Board will elect its president and other officers.

When sought for his comment, Jonathan “Maxi” Maximo, CebuFa’s immediate part president who stepped out of his post at the end of 2007 referred the matter to Montayre.

Maximo reiterated that he has no intention of seeking re-election. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
