U15 Football team to get citation from city on Charter Day

Team Cebu City-Football is set to receive the biggest award in the field of sport in tomorrow’s 71st Charter Day Awards Night at Fort San Pedro, this city.

TCC-Football Team, who bagged the under-15 title against the more favored Iloilo Team, in the Philippine Olympic Festival (POF) will be bestowed the Sports Team of the Year title.

The Cebuanos, who made waves in the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, on the other hand, will get special citations. The list include Baby Marites Bitbit, Antonio Gabica, Julius Nierras Jr., Jasper Cabrera, Oscar Bradshaw, Joseph Roldan Bacarisas, Manuel Bacarisas, Jr., Edzel Bacarisas, Elaine Bacarisas, Dearlie Gerodias, Noel Espinosa, Reynante Briones, Roel Empacis, Lutche Metante, Nino Surban, Motodio Suico Jr., Harrison Castanares, Sugar Rey Metante and Erlando Metante.

The Agbay sisters, Mary Evangeline and Mary Stephanie who shone in the Asian Wushu Junior Championships in Korea, the National Championships in Manila and recipient of the Siddayao award of PSA Sports Awards will also get citations from the city.

The top Cebuano athletes join 74 other awardees, in different fields, in this event led by Mayor Tomas Osmena.

Athletes who have also made big achievements in the past year, but were not included in the Charter Day’s award list, will be honored later in a separate ceremony.

The Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) through councilors Sylvan Jakosalem and Raul Alcoseba along with the longest serving CCSC Commissioner Nimrod Quinones of The Freeman are planning to put up a Cebu City Sports Awards in June.

The athletes will be feted together with those who will be inducted in Cebu Hall of Fame. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
