The Bogo Bogoys and the Talisay Aquastars trampled their visiting rivals to assure themselves of a semifinal seat in the 1st Cebu Inter-City Cup Basketball Challenge.
The Bogoys outgunned the Danao Pistols, 82-73, at the Don Celestino Martinez Memorial Coliseum, while the Aquastars escaped with a 100-95 victory over the Toledo Dream at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Jun Ace Ursal led Bogo with 22 points followed by Noel Balili with 19. Reynan Capoy paced the Pistols with 18 points.
With the win, Bogo and Talisay gained outright entry into the semis, leaving Danao and the Cebu City Niños as the only other contenders for the last spot into the Big Four.
The Bogoys jumped to second place in the overall standings with a 6-2 win-loss record behind league front-runner Lapu-Lapu City with an 8-2 slate.
The Aquastars, on the other hand, improved their win-loss record to 6-3.Danao slipped to 3-6, while Toledo crashed to its seventh defeat against only two victories. The Niños are also in danger of early elimination with a paltry 2-6 win-loss card.
The only way for Danao to make it into the next round of the tournament spearheaded by BAP-SBP Cebu Province director Lorenzo “Chao” Sy is to sweep its final two assignments, a tedious task that the Niños must also have to accomplish to stay alive. (GGM)
