CCC/UC alums play exhibition games Jan. 26

-

Some 84 players from the former CCC and UC teams will play exhibition games as part of their grand reunion on January 26 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The players will be divided into four teams: Blue, Red, White and Green, with at least 15 players in the roster.

Some notable alumni, now living in the US, will lead the teams including former PBA player Benjamin Ocariza, Allan Ceniz and Boy Partoza.

Rey Yncierto, a former PBA star, the event’s organizer, said that while the program won’t be finalized until January 23, he is expecting more players to sign up.

As an added attraction, the current CESAFI players composing the college and high school varsity teams of UC will play against some newly graduated alumni including Kenneth Kern Sesante, who placed second in the recent customs broker examination.

The batch of Yncierto won CCC’s first CAA crown in 1981 by beating the UV Lancers. Five years later, they grabbed another trophy by whipping USC. The same batch placed fourth in the National Inter-Collegiate Championship in Baguio City that year.

Four from that 1986 batch made it to the PBA. They were Carlito Mejos (Pepsi Cola), Roel Gomez and Allen Sasan (Alaska) and Yncierto (Pepsi Cola).

The other members of that team were Jofre Macoy, Caesar Borromeo, Percius Curugan, Tata Abellana, Armen Reunido, Porfesio Tuse and Joshua Alguno. The coaching staff had Joaquin Rojas as head coach with Mariano “Dodong” Agas and Eddie Montalban as assistants and Rolando Adarna as utility and statistician.

Atty Baldomero C. Estenzo was the team’s manager. (GGM)
