- Nimrod NL Quiñones -

The duo of Patrick Cymn Go and Bukidnon’s Tommy Tabanas hold the provisional overall lead in 27th Coral Invitational after the penultimate day of action yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.

The tandem scored a total of 168 points on combined rounds of 83 and 85 in this two-man team event using the Modified Stableford Scoring System.

The remainder of the field of over 200 teams will play their second and final round today in this member-guest event.

Running second overall is the duo of Ven Lacustales, who recently retired as an executive of Pilipinas Shell and cardiologist Arnold Tan.  The duo scored a total of 158 points on rounds of 81 and 77.

Two teams scored a total of 155 points apiece.  These are the duos of Andrew Si and Richard Lim and Dr. Amado Layno and Alfredo Abundo.

Si and Lim, who led after the first day of action, made rounds of 85 and 70 while Layno and Abundo had 75 and 80.

Five teams all made aggregates of 154.  These are Marc Gonzalez and retired Air Force general Rodante Joya, Jay-jay Neri and Jeffrey Infante, Gilbert Yap, Jr. and Cagayan de Oro’s Jun Suan, Fausto ‘Titing’ Gamallo and Edward Caranza, and long-time buddies Benito Gaisano and Atty. Baldomero Estenzo.

The duo of Gaisano and Estenzo, however, leads the field in the seniors’ category, which is for teams with a total age of 120 years old or more.

Two strokes back in the seniors’ class are the teams of Ang Chiong and Nido Lao and Masatsugu Ochiai and Cagayan de Oro-based Cebuano Clifford Celdran.

Ang and Lao scored rounds of 77 and 75 while Ochiai and Celdran had rounds of 75 and 77.

At fourth spot is the team of Manger Calderon and Edward Avila with 151 (73-78) and at fifth is opening day seniors’ class pacesetter, brothers Francis and Manuel Zosa, Jr. with 147 (82-65).

First round topscorers Nelson Yuvallos and Lorenzo Alaan, who combined for 87 points, are scheduled to play today.
