Gothongs lead Sinulog bowlfest

The Gothongs made the first night of the 9th Sinulog Classic Open 2008 at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Banilad, a family affair.

This after Jun-Jun Gothong and his uncle Docdoc finished 1-2 in Squad I after the first eight games.

Junjun Gothong finished with 1,735 pinfalls, for first place. Docdoc Gothong, on the other hand, scored 1,730 pinfalls for second place. Wilbert Yu, with 1,689, hugged third place. 

Two female bowlers placed in the top five. Michelle Lim finished fourth with 1,677 pinfalls, followed closely by Alexis Sy with 1,671 pinfalls.

Clarence Tiu wound up sixth with 1,639 while Clifford Tan placed seventh with 1,613 pinfalls. Jacklynn Lim (1,601), Kim Lao (1,590) and Jake Yap (1,570) rounded up the top ten.

Bel Suelto, one of the top bets among the veteran bowlers in the city, could only score 1,496 pinfalls, good for 21st place.

Squad II, a group of visitors, including some national team members and Paeng Nepomuceno, a four-time World Cup champion, was still playing the first eight games as of press time.

The top 36 bowlers, after the elimination round, will advance to the finals slated on Saturday, where they play eight games.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
