Promising Cebuano junior tennis player Jacob Lagman went off to a bad start in the 19th Andrada Cup Age-Group Tennis Championship at the Rizal Memorial tennis courts.
The 12-year-old Lagman tried his luck in the 16-under division but his luck ran out in the first round, losing to Israel Abarquez 3-6, 3-6, yesterday.
Lagman, however, promised to make up for his debacle when he starts his campaign in the boys’ 14-under division today against Mark Jerome Santiago. Lagman is moving to this division because he is turning 13 this April.
Lagman, who has been dominating the 12-under division, will likely rule the 14-under division especially now that Niño Siso is moving the 16-under category because the latter will turn 15 sometime this year.
Meanwhile, Niño and his sisters Sallydine and Sally Mae were invited to play in the Andrada Cup but their mother and coach Sally decided to give her children a break after competing in the energy-sapping, four-leg Malaysia junior circuit before the year ended.
