The University of the Visayas advanced to the semifinal round of CESAFI’s football competition after earning a hard-earned 2-0 victory over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
After a scoreless first half, UV went for the kill and scored two goals in the second half of their game at the University of San Carlos Technological Center in Talamban, this city.
UV’s two goals were courtesy of Junard Aguilar and Frederick Alazas in the 67th and 72nd minute, respectively.
With the win, UV topped the elimination round with a 3-1-0 win, loss, draw card that is good for 10 points.
As both teams tried to score in the second half, the game got physical resulting in Jomar Labastida (UV) and Christian Deck Pacana (USPF) getting yellow cards.
UV plays fourth-ranked USC in the first semifinal pairings. USC hoped to beat USJ-R for a higher finish but lost 0-1 instead.
Second-ranked USJ-R plays USPF in the other semifinal match, however, without striker Arlo Sabal got a red card during their outing with USC.
