Lagman advances to Penang q’finals

Jacob Lagman joins fellow Cebuano Vince Marc Tabotabo in the quarterfinal round of the Penang Open International Age-group Tennis Championships after winning his first two games at the Universiti Sains Malaysia yesterday.

Lagman opened his bid with a 6-0,6-0 win against Japan’s Ogino Seiya in the boys’12-under class. The following day, Lagman recorded a 6-3,6-1 triumph over Sean Yip U-quian.

The graduating pupil of St. Benedict Childhood Learning Center will be facing either a Korean or Malaysian in the next round.

On the other hand, Niño Siso collected his second win in the boys’14-under division at the expense of Ahmad Nazril Bin Saarani 6-1,6-0 in the upper bracket of their division.

Sally Mae, Niño’s little sister, survived a thrilling 6-3,7-5 encounter against Shafah Shafina in the second round of the girls’14-under.

Marian Capadocia also won her third round assignment yesterday, 7-6 (7-3),6-0 over Korea’s Lee Eun Ji in the girls’12-under action while the result of Krissianne Kintanar’s games and those of Tabotabo’s yesterday are still unavailable.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
