The Philippines’ bets in the Malaysian junior tennis circuit swept all the singles titles available in the Selangor International Junior Tennis Championships, which concluded at the Pikinis Sports Complex in Selangor yesterday.
The RP bets, mostly Cebuanos, also won most of the doubles titles.
The much awaited finals showdown of University of San Carlos’ Sally Mae and Niño Siso ended as a lopsided victory for them.
Sally Mae Siso who had to wait for two days before playing the girls’14-under championships, clobbered her doubles partner Theviya Selvarajoo, 6-2, 6-1.
Earlier the two won the doubles gold.
Not to be outdone, Niño also came up with a double victory after winning the boys’ 14-under finals against Malaysia’s Kevin Loke, 6-3, 6-1 aside from the doubles gold.
On the other hand,Vince Marc Tabotabo overpowered Chin Yen Tong, 7-5, 6-1 to win the boys’ 10-under gold. Tabotabo and Malaysia’s Bio Talha won the doubles gold.
The other Cebuana, Krissianne Kintanar, and Marian Capadocia, the lone netter from Manila who made it to Malaysia also posted a double victory after winning the girls’ 10-under and 12-under classes respectively.
Jacob Lagman, however, missed duplicating his teammates victory after failing to win the doubles gold in the boys’ 12-under class.
Lagman and Dusbionjit Singh were both too exhausted to play in the doubles championships following a close to three hours battle against each other in the singles final.
Although missing the doubles gold, Lagman is just equally-proud as the rest as he beat no less than the no. 1 seeded player in their bracket, 7-6, 6-3.
After Selangor, the RP bets will be playing in Penang for the second leg of the four-leg Malaysian Tour.
