Em-em grabs U-14 doubles title

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

With her singles championship game still a day away, Sally Mae Siso and Malaysian Theviyah Selvarajoo took the girls’ 14-under doubles title in the Selangor International Junior Tennis Championships at Pikinis Sports Complex yesterday.

Siso and Selvarajoo blended well to beat Eliza Nur and Rose Shamiza 8-2.

Ironically, Siso and Selvarajoo will dispute the girls’ 14-under title tomorrow. After playing together and observing each other’s strengths and weaknesses during their doubles game, the finals between the two junior players will be interesting match to say the least.

Cebuana Krissianne Kintanar and Manila’s Marian Capadocia, on the other hand,  barged into final round of their respective divisions after posting victories in the semifinal round.

Kintanar outsmarted Nur Nabila 6-2, 6-4 in the girls’10-under division. Kintanar will go for a doubles title with  Delizaverne Singh - her singles final opponent - in the same age group.

Capadocia, for her part, pulled a hard-earned 7-5, 6-4 victory over Arch Naah for a final seat in the 12-under group.

The boys at Kelana Jaya Sports Complex also advanced to the semifinal round of their respective divisions.

Nino Siso, who’s playing in the boys’ 14-under class, opened his bid with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Asyraf Naim, beat Te Yu Chan 6-1, 6-2 then bundled out Muhammad Naim 6-1, 6-2 for a place in the semifinal round.

Jacob Lagman turned back Colin Wong, 6-3, 6-1 to move to the semifinal round of the boys’ 12-under division.

The third member of the boys team, Vince Marc Tabotabo beat Mohammad Afiq Irfan 6-1, 6-1 to barge into the semifinal round of the boys’ 10-under category. He will  face Tan Zu Zinyang tomorrow.
