Ansag pockets wrestling gold for Cebu in POF national finals

-

Glen Ansag.

The name doesn’t ring a bell. Fact is, most Cebuanos first heard of him in this report.

While Cebuanos were rooting for the football and judo teams in the Philippine Olympic Festival National Finals, they forgot Glen Ansag who was sweating it out in the mat.

The Dumanjog native, who currently resides in Manila, overpowered his opponent from Iloilo to win the 55-kilogram freestyle event in the recently concluded Philippine Olympic Festival National Finals.

Before his golden performance, Ansag defeated entries from Ifugao, Zamboanga and Paranaque.

All the 24-year-old wants now is to follow the footsteps of his brother Luis, who was with the national wrestling team as player and then as coach before trying his luck in Canada.

Luis was in town to coach his brother Glen during his POF matches. He later texted The FREEMAN of his younger brother’s exploits.

Now that the elder Ansag is back in the country, he wants to train his brother to become a top-caliber athlete like him and represent the country in international competitions.

With the way the younger Ansag is going, his brother’s task seem easier and the dream to represent the country in international events may not be that far-fetched.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
