SCBHABA, UBC stay clean in MP Cup basketball event

-

The M. Lhuillier-San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (SCBHABA) and MS Motosuit-Unity Basketball Club (UBC) drubbed separate foes to remain as the only unbeaten teams in the 1st MP Cup Invitational over the weekend at the Capitol Parish Gym.

Bull-strong center Dindo Sausa exploded with a season-high 33 points as M. Lhuillier-SCBHABA outclassed Metro Cebu Basketball Association (MCBA), 73-65, while MS Motosuit-UBC of sports patron Lou Ornopia got off to a hot start and then launched a crippling endgame rally to pulverize RWS Stable/AJL Surplus, 80-65.

Thus, SCBHABA firmed up its grip of the Bracket B lead with an unblemished 6-0 record, in the same way with UBC in Bracket A with a clean 5-0 slate.

Virgil “Bing” Pua and John Andrew Auza chipped in 12 markers apiece for SCBHABA, which never looked back after taking an early 18-11 lead. Collin Declines had 17 points for MCBA, which suffered its second straight loss after an impressive 4-0 start.

MS Motosuit-UBC, on the other hand, closed the first half with a 38-32 advantage and then held off RWS Stable to only six points while scoring 17 in the final period to come up with a 15-point romp.

The Gonzaga brothers Rey and Rex connived for 28 points, even as three others cashed in double figures for UBC. Lopesino Bontia had 18 markers followed by Role Castro and Romeo Areceo, Jr. with 12 and 11, respectively.

Dave Lim finished with 20 points and Theogene Lim had 16, but their efforts went to waste as RWS Stable tasted back-to-back losses after nailing four straight wins.

In the other game, Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael L. Rama and Reynaldo Zamora sparkled with 18 points apiece as the Barkada-Rama Boys gunned down the previously undefeated Samsung-Punta Princesa Sports Association (PPSA), 83-80.

Richard Molina donated 16 markers and Lemar Alcover 12 for Rama Boys, which did not only spoil the 33-point outburst of PPSA’s James Lloyd “Jimbo” Noel but also join its victim at second place in Bracket B with similar 4-1 win-loss cards.
