Cebu XI enters POF semis

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

Team Cebu City-Football made sure they would have a worry-free rest day after beating Bukidnon 2-0 to clinch a semifinals seat in the 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival National Finals at Fort Bonifacio Ascomm field yesterday.

Team Cebu is currently on top of bracket B with a 3-0 record. The team takes a break today before it plays Quezon City tomorrow.

Cebu and Bukidnon were scoreless in the first half of their match. However, the complexion of the game swayed in favor of Cebu in the second half after Jules Villahermosa of CIE scored a goal. A few minutes later, Emilio Cunningham found the net for Cebu’s third victory in as many starts.

Bukidnon tried in vain to come back into the match but Cebu’s defense didn’t allow any headway for the Mindanao booters.

If Team Cebu beats Quezon City tomorrow, it will top bracket B, and they will face the number 2 team from bracket A in the crossover semifinals, an easier assignment according to Coach Glen Ramos.

Coach Ramos, however, told his boys to keep their focus and not become complacent. Therefore, instead of just hanging around doing nothing, the young booters will join their coach in scouring their possible opponents from bracket A.

Ramos’ charges, so far, have been impressive with wins against Masbate, Parañaque and Bukidnon.

The Visayan Electric Company, Cebu Amateur Football Club and the Cebu City Sports Commission support their trip in Manila.
