MS Motosuit-UBC 5 nips Team Pacman

-

The MS Motosuit-Unity Basketball Club (UBC) wielded its endgame magic anew to repulse the previously undefeated Team Pacman, 100-97, in the first overtime game of the 1st MP Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Main Gym.

Thus, MS Motosuit-UBC of sportsman Lou Ornopia joined RWS Stable/AJL Surplus on top of Bracket A leader board with identical 2-0 slates. During their first game, UBC also had to erase as much as 16 points deficit before grinding through a 77-75 victory over House of Hope.

Against Pacman, MS Motosuit-UBC also had to overhaul a 12-point deficit in the third period, go through a five-minute extension before snapping out the two-game winning streak of the team of boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.

Lopesino Bontia topscored for MS Motosuit-UBC with 21 points, while Rey Gonzaga and Rex Gonzaga pitched in 29 points combined.  Roel Castro contributed 13 markers followed by Geryl Bukiron with 11 underscoring their balanced attack.

Navarro scattered a game-high 30 markers, but his efforts went for naught at Team Pacman dropped to 2-1.

In the other game, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) Quenchers rallied back from 16-point down early in the third quarter to turn back the Cebu Sports Media Association (CSMA) Hoopsters, 60-54.

The high-leaping Alberto Handayan, Jr. fired 17 points, while Army Marata dished out 14 markers for MCWD, which outscored the Cebu Media in the final half, 42-22, to chalk up its first win in the two-month tilt offering a total of P100,000 in cash prizes. — EBV
