Firefly gains semis in Aloguinsan Cagefest

Firefly earned a semifinal berth after beating San Fernando Selection, 95-87, at the close of elimination round of the Aloguinsan Open Basketball Tournament at the Alodome.

Firefly relied on heady plays from its three players to take control of the game in the third and fourth quarters.

Point guard Rino Berido led a third quarter run for the Fireflies that gave them a 76-62 lead.

Prior to that, San Fernando was in control of the game and even took the half with a slim 28-26 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Elmer Gallarde and Marvin Abapo continued Firefly’s attack and kept San Fernando at bay for the rest of the way.

Firefly topped Bracket B with a 3-0 win-loss card. They will play Team Survivor in a knockout semifinal, with the winner advancing to the championship game. — Marigold P. Lebumfacil, Correspondent
