PWAI sets two qualifying tourneys to scout for RP SEA Games entries

The Philippine Weightlifting Association Incorporated (PWAI) will be holding two qualifying tournaments here in Cebu to determine the country’s representatives to the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December.

These are the heavy load test here and the 2007 National 5-in-1 Weightlifting Championships.

There will be two venues for heavy load test that will be held simultaneously at the Rizal Memorial Complex and another one in Cebu this Monday with no confirmed venue.

The test will be handled by coach Alfonsito Aldanete as Ramon Solis is still in China accompanying the country’s brightest prospect for an Olympic gold in the future, Haidelyn Diaz.

The National 5-in-1 action is set to take place on October 26 to 30 in Zamboanga City.

Although Zamboanga has yet to confirm its hosting, Bacolod City Rep. Monico Puentevella, who is also the president of PWAI, told The Freeman yesterday that he is positive that Zamboanga will accept the hosting chores.

“Zamboanga is very active in weightlifting. They have good weightlifters so I don’t think they will turn us down,” Puentevella said. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
