Former pro star and veteran commercial coach Leoncio “Jun” Tan, Jr. will hold a tryout for the Mandaue Landmasters today from 1 to 3 pm at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Tan is in the process of scouting for potential players that will form the core of the Landmasters as they gear up for their return in the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference which will kick off next month.
Before they settled in Mandaue, the Landmasters carried the corporate name of Toledo Landmasters of realtor Jose Soberano. However, they skipped last season after losing to the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala in the Visayas finals last year.
Tan expects a heavy turnout of participants in the tryout because many players are yearning to see action in the MVBA.
Tan was a champion coach in the defunct Cebu Basketball Federation where he piloted the Granny Goose Tortillos to several championships. He was also a consistent contender as collegiate coach while handling the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars. (GGM)
