Chao Sy keen on staging Cebu Inter-City caging

-

Longtime basketball patron Lorenzo “Chao” Sy has welcomed with open arms the proposal of Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junnie” Martinez, Jr. to stage an Inter-City basketball tournament anytime soon.

Sy said there’s reason why he should not support the project because he believes the proposal of Mayor Martinez is a great move towards grassroots development in basketball in this portion of the archipelago.

“I’m very amenable to Junnie’s proposal because it is my primary duty and ardent desire to help bring back the glory days of basketball here in Cebu,” said Sy, who is also a well-known boxing promoter during the ‘70s.

Sy said he will write an invitation letter to the city mayors at the soonest possible time to find out if they’re supportive on the holding of the Inter-City hoopfest.

Sy said he doesn’t know yet if Cebu City is interested to join, but bared that Bogo and Mandaue City under the administration of newly-elected mayor Jonas Cortes have already expressed their interest in joining the province-wide tournament.

The other cities Sy is going to invite include Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Toledo, and Talisay.

Each city is allowed to field in a team, which players are bonafide residents of the place. The team though is allowed to recruit two imports. There will be no age limit.

The income that will be generated from this tilt following a home-and-away format will go directly to the host city but in return, it will shoulder the transportation expenses of the team everytime they play out of their turf.

Once everything is already in place, Sy also wants that each team should have a cheering team to make the competition more intense and livelier. (GGM)
