The year-long free dancesport workshop will blast off today in eight barangay sports complex here in the Queen City of the South. These include Tisa, Mabolo, Guadalupe, Bulacao Pardo, Basak San Nicholas, Tejero, Cogon Ramos and Bonbon.
All dance enthusiasts from neighboring barangays in any of the identified venues are welcome to join the workshop, which will take place every Saturday from 9 am to 12 nn except for Mabolo which has its training session from 1 to 4 pm.
Interested participants, aged four years old and above, may register on site.
This will be a rare opportunity for them to become either dance athletes, performers or teachers in the future.
“I am very excited about the year-round workshop concept and strategy. It will really sustain the growth and development of the kids,”said Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) dancesport director Edward Hayco.
Hayco added that the sport of dancing builds one’s character as well as his sense of discipline, self-worth, self-confidence, self-respect, self-esteem, poise, grace, elegance, responsibility and leadership.
The project is aimed at continuing what had been taught in the Barangay-Based Summer DanceSport Workshops, improving the knowledge of the participants in the basic principles of each dance and creating a core group in each barangay to sustain the growth of dancesport.
It has also been conceptualized to develop each couple to be at par with other athletes and performers in the local, national or even in the international stage aside from developing them into performers and teachers.
The dancesport program is a joint project of Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña, Cebu City Government, Sangguniang Kabataan Cebu City Chapter, and DanceSport-Team Cebu City.
