Radio station Y101's venture into golf organizing is a welcome addition to Cebu's somehow already too familiar golf events.
The 1st Y101 Corporate Cup could be the trigger that would encourage other entities to hold similar events that could definitely spice up what is going on in the local golf scene.
I may sound biased since I am helping out as part of the organizing committee of the tournament, but having been in committees the past 10 years has given me a chance to see how the various tournaments have evolved into what they are today.
Although I would say that what we already have are not exactly boring events, but since we have seen almost everything when it comes to giveaways and prizes for the winners and the raffles, the entry of new events would surely open our eyes to other possibilities.
Y101's Martha Tuason and her better half Joseph Stevens seem to have done a great job in terms of giving us a fresh view of what else can be done.
The tournament is going to hold its ceremonial tee off late this afternoon and this will be followed by cocktails.Tomorrow, the action starts and on Friday we will know the winners.
To those who failed to get a slot, Martha has promised to hold a bigger one next year, so better register early then.

After the planned Megadome for Cebu ended up as the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), many from the sports world lamented that a sports arena would have been put to better use.
It's too late to argue about that, so I'd rather we move forward and find a way to still have that dream world-class sports stadium we Cebuanos can be proud of.
I have heard of lobbies from local officials to get funding for such a project and they are now knocking on the doors of senators to help fund this world-class sports stadium.
We can always argue about the pros and cons of having such a stadium and on how it can be fully utilized to make it a viable project.
I'd leave it to the experts to come up with a feasibility study and would keep to myself what I have to say.
If the experts say it will work, I hope we can get the funding to do it.If they say it won't, then we move forward.
There is no way to please everyone, but Cebu definitely needs such a stadium and I hope it will happen.Just a word or warning to the proponents and implementers - please don't overprice the project.

In behalf of my wife's family, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to those who condoled with us last weekend when my father-in-law, Sotero T. Reyes, Sr. passed away.
He was buried last Sunday afternoon at the Pardo Cemetery.I would like to ask our pious readers to say a prayer for his soul.
