Rollway ends streak of RMP in CEBU-Collector's Cup

-
Rollway Freighters Five of Rolly Dela Pieza halted the three-game streak of league-pacesetter RMP, 96-93, in the 35-Below division of the 2007 Customs Employees and Brokers Union (CEBU) -Collector's Cup basketball tournament at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

RMP jumped off to a rousing start in the opening period behind the early assault of Adonis Morata, who unleashed 15 points in that stretch with Taks Moral and Rex Bensi joining in the fray to take a four-point lead, 28-24.

However the duo of former USC Warrior Danny Infantado and former UC Webmaster Kern Sesante came up with steals that triggered a decisive fast-break attack anchored on Christian Villacastin and Randy Francia to rule the half with a slim two-point advantage, 49-47.

Ex-PBA Gary Cortes carried the play for the Freighters and employed a tough defense in the third canto, led by Amay Palad and PJ Urbina, to wrest slowly the tempo of the game.

Infantado top scored for the Freighters with a game-high 27 points while Sesante and Cortes were also in double figures.

Morata and Palero paced the losing RMP with 20 and 16 points, respectively, while Alex San Pablo added 14.

Earlier, the Cebu Customs United Personnel Association (CCUPA) of Yoly Cena won by default over the winless Wharfinger for its clean record of 4-0 win-loss card, in the 35-above category.
