Alan’s ace
March 29, 2007 | 12:00am
Banker Alan John I. Larot had a major reason to celebrate last March 10 as he scored his first hole-in-one. While many aces are often made out of pure luck, I’d say that lucky he may be, this one also took into account skill.
Alan aced the 190-yard hole no. 15 of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club. This is the longest and probably the meanest of par-3 holes in the club with a ravine right in front of you from the tee mound.
To the duffers, dumping balls into the ravine isn’t a surprise.
Alan used a King Cobra 5 wood and a Tour Special no. 3 ball for the feat witnessed by Allan Lua, Joe Ong, and Ramon Yap.
Their flight was the last of three in their group that plays regularly. The two other flights were composed of Edwin Espina, Roy Damole, Peter Po and David Villono and Koko Holganza, Doli Cabahug, Eugene Tio and Jun Caoili.
Alan told me that for that day he won a total o P3,600 in bets, but unfortunately still went home with less money in his pocket as the food bill for their celebration reached P7,000.
Many golfers never even get a chance to score an ace in their whole life. I’m sure everyone also got free Beefwich coupons from Alan, whose business started from the golf course also as a hurriedly made sandwich so he won’t be late for tee off. Now, he’s starting to franchise.
He maybe doing well in his business and at IBank, but I’m sure the ace beats all of them.
I got this email from Dr. Peter Y. Mancao recently and I am sharing the information with you. I hope you’ll support this worthwhile event.
The Philippine Heart Center Medical Alumni Society (PHCMAS) Cebu Chapter in cooperation with the Philippine Heart Association(PHA) Cebu Chapter will be holding its first "Run For Your Heart" 5k and 10k fun run on May 6.
The assembly area will be at the Cebu Doctors’ University Gym at the corner of Gov M. Roa and Maria Cristina St.
Technical support for the event will be provided by the Cebu Road Runners Club and the Sight First Running Club. For more details please send an email to: [email protected].
The days are getting really hot and I’d like to remind friends who continue to engage in outdoor sports to make sure you put on sunscreen.
Also make sure that you drink lots of water or other fluids, but not alcohol please, to keep you hydrated while doing your physical activity.
It always pays to be prepared.
Those whose kids are playing outdoors must also make sure that we prepare them to battle the heat.
As the cliché goes, "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure."
Let us make the school break a healthy and worthwhile experience for our children.
Let us share notes. Send me e-mail through [email protected] and I’ll be happy to discuss with you some topics that we share common interests in.
