USC North dominates Cherifer caging

As expected, the more composed and cohesive University of San Carlos-North Campus small basketeers topped the Cebu Leg of the Cherifer Tangkad Sagad 12 years and under basketball tournament, by hacking a 23-7 victory over host Don Bosco College (DBC) yesterday at the DBC covered courts in barangay Punta Princesa.

Rey Arnejo steered the USC Baby Warriors by scoring 11 points, at the same time drawing support from John Pajantoy and Tecson Gacrama.

Scoring for Don Bosco were Paul Hapin with three points and another two points each from Benedict Alicer and Marlo Pono.

The USC-North of coach Galimar Largo and team coordinator Lito Tampus advanced to the finals after booting out the Don Bosco-Lawaan, 28-8, while Don Bosco-Main edged the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit-Main, 17-15.

At lunch break, organizers of the Cherifer caging, led by San Beda Red Cubs coach Edmundo "Ato" Badolato, held a 2-ball competition on a father and son or coach and player tandem.

The father and son tandem of Aron and Arthur Sing of Sacred Heart took the title with 54 points. They received Cherifer gift packs including shirts, tumblers and vitamins.

As champion, the USC-North received a beautifully crafted trophy while the players and coach were also given a medal each.
