Henkel Philippines '95 and Petrogas '92 dispatched separate foes in contrasting fashion to keep their unbeaten records intact in the 9th Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) season on Thursday night at the CEC gym.
Class '95 needed a five-minute extension before disposing off JV Shop n' Shop '97, 75-68, in the first overtime game of the season, while Class '92 had little trouble in burning down the previously undefeated Villa Shipping '70s, 69-52.
After figuring in a 62-all standoff at the end of the regulation period that sent the game into overtime, Class '95 worked doubly hard in the extra period where they held off the fagged out Class '97 to only six plints while scoring 13 to stretch their sizzling win streak to four in as many starts.
Class '95 once again rode on Donald Anthony Ting's singular offensive outburst to send strong signal on its serious championship campaign. Ting exploded with 29 points, while his tag partner Wellington Yu was the only other double digit scorer with 10.
Aubery Jones Ibones, Timothy Tan and Carl Michael Tan combined for 35 points for Class '97, which suffered its first loss in two games.
In the other game, Richard Lanutan had 16 points while Mitchel Diputado and Warren William Yu connived for 24 markers as Petrogas '92 breathe fire the entire game to sink the Villas Shipping-backed squad.
Class '92 closed the first half with a 36-26 lead and then further clobbered the hapless Class '70s in the third canto, 18-7, to rip the game apart entering the payoff period, 54-33. Class '70s sailed on rough waters the rest of the way.
